One piece of advice to give to parents to encourage healthy eating habits in children is to involve them in the meal selection and meal preparation process. We have been offering our Fun Food Friday at Fitwize 4 Kids for more than eight years, where we host a show every Friday on various types of foods - shakes, meals, and desserts.

Over the years, we have found children will not try some foods because they think they look gross or they are afraid they will taste bad. Surrounding yourself with other kids who are willing to try new foods and give their honest opinions on what it tastes like is a sure way to get your kid to try new foods.

For example, parents can create the same atmosphere by creating a cooking class in their home, inviting their friends over, and having several different recipes for them to choose from to cook. This hands-on experience makes healthy eating fun and empowers your kids and other kids to understand the value of nutritious food and widen their selections.
